Hello world – in more ways than one…?

For those of you that don’t program, the “Hello World” post probably makes little to no sense. Even as someone who does/has programmed, I never really took the “Hello World” concept very seriously, but I’m starting to understand the merit. Just for a quick reference, if you’re actually interested at all, the Wikipedia article will explain the general concept.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my goals and about the things that I want to accomplish in the near term, and while I’ve got a relatively clear line of sight and actionable items to get from the starting point to the finish line, I realized today that I need to complete a few more “Hello World”s before I get anywhere… Baby steps, as it were.

I’ve been meaning to start this blog for the longest time, so here it goes —

My pseudo-formal introduction/crappy first post:

For those of you who don’t know me — my name is Johnny, and this blog serves as a (work) log of things I find particularly interesting in my life. There’ll probably be a few instances of “getting my thoughts down on ‘paper'” spread throughout the blog, but primarily I plan to use this blog to document progress on various projects I’m working on. I’ll probably be doing a little discussion on the things i’m focusing on in life, such as (basic/personal) finance, organization/productivity, etc, as well as my hobbies. The hobbies aspect is a lot more broad, so I won’t get personally offended if you don’t subscribe.

Expect the following categories of posts: Homebrewing, Tennis (specifically stringing), Computers/Case Modding, Electronics/Design, VW TDi, Hardware hacks/DIY electronics, Soldering, Car computing, and last (but not least): Microcontroller projects. I’d also expect a lot of cross-pollination, but I’ll let the shape and overall flow and feel of the blog come together on its own.

Looking towards the future:

Upcoming: I’m planning on starting a moderately complex microcontroller project, which will probably take shape in the next year or so. I’m putting it on my priority list, so expect some updates on this project. I’m going to quit the imagined excuses and just jump straight into the respective hello world: getting an LED to blink.
